Just ask Rick Salomon and he’ll tell you one night in Perris is never enough. After a brief jaunt to Oklahoma, the SHNC made a round trip back to the Inland Empire for the 6th stop of the Progressive presented Super Hooligan National Championship powered by Indian Motorcycle.

Perris and Paris couldn’t be more culturally opposite, but what Perris lacks in museums, history and art is makes up for 10-fold in racing heritage and outlaw spirt, both of which the SHNC embodies wholeheartedly. The SHNC found itself smack dab in the middle of a So. Cal two-wheel enthusiast dream week. So.Cal was inundated with Hooligan racers and motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country thanks to the X Games qualifier that took place the night before in the City of Industry and the ever Choppular Born Free Motorcycle show in Irvine Lake the day after.
Le Commandant of the SHNC Roland Sands himself got a bit of throttle therapy aboard the famed GT750 water buffalo during practice. Roland doesn’t get to race much these days with all his other responsibilities, but the “Rojo Rage” doesn’t seem to have lost a step… could be see a wild card appearance at Moto Beach???
Extra Hooligans in town meant added competition. Riders who had made sparse appearances in the previous SHNC rounds and other fast racers from different series were all in town attempting to qualify for the “Hooligan” event at X Games next month and all descended on the IE ready to prove their proficiency on the 1/8 cushion oval.
The folks with the SCFTA did an amazing job prepping the track. It was evident during practice that multiple lines were developing allowing riders several options and creating lots of opportunities for passing. The SHNC fans piled in, almost meeting Perris Short Tack’s capacity of 1,000, all eager to be treated to an amazing night of race action peppered with Roland Sands special brand of moto merrymaking.

It wouldn’t be an SHNC party without the supporting classes that turn up and help put on a show before the Super Hooligans take center stage. The J&P Cycles Presented Hooligan amateur class was stacked.
The Run What Ya Brung class was represented in exactly the sprit it was intended with Cycle World journalist Justin Dawes riding a bone stock Husqvarna Svartpilen 701 to the track and racing against all the other unclassified machines.
The Open Flattrack class was also visited by Moto correspondent Adam Waheed representing Motorcyclist Magazine aboard his Suzuki RMZ 450 DTX bike.
Randy and Tyler … both are doing great.
Alt-Rock Argentinean band Lujuria is most likely use to fans moshing in front of the stage while they perform, but Roland had a vision of them rocking fans f@*cking faces off while racers ripped around the track. Nothing quite compares to watching riders wrestle 500lb hooligan bikes bar to bar with a heavy metal soundtrack.

Super Hooligan racing was born and bred on the short tracks of Southern California so it makes perfect sense for the SHNC to hit one of the best short tracks in the country at Perris, CA during Southern California’s always epic Born Free weekend.
