Meatball and his crew from Hell On Wheels MC know how to throw a fun race. The vibe at the events are classic and everyone involved is out to have a good ol’ time. Great play-by-play live announcing by GT Tomlinson of Von Zipper & flagger/trophy girl Lindsey Karnopp make it feel like you’re in a time warp. Every year they host a calendar of great races for ANYBODY, of ANY SKILL LEVEL, riding ANYTHING on wheels: TT, Scrambles, Motocross, Hillclimb, etc. Whether it is your first time riding a motorcycle or your out to win, there is a class and fun competition to be had.
Last weekend was the annual Halloween Hillclimb event at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino. There’s no way we were going to miss it. We rounded up a group of rowdy friends to race the heavy, V-twin, Super Hooligan modified streetbike class with us. Dunlop got us some of their MX3S knobby tires in the nick of time on Friday and we mounted to the Indian Scouts and our Pickletracker Sporty. If you’re like us (until now) and have never ridden a 80+ horsepower, 500 lb. motorcycle with a knobby… do yourself the favor. Some of the most fun you can ever have on 2 wheels! Races were heads-up, one-on-one, elimination format with a downhill start onto the REM motocross track. A few sandy corners then up and over a tabletop and into a right hander leading up the Mt. Whitney Hillclimb (named after popular 20 year old local pro motocross racer, Whitney Murphy, who passed away racing here).
Go follow Hell On Wheels on Facebook to keep up with their race schedule. If you miss out, you’ll be kicking yourself until the next one.
