Ben's trusty Dyna was a road dog. A daily commuter with many years and miles behind it, the time came to give it a new lease on life, revamping this old Dynasaur with a uniquely RSD performance and style overhaul.
The Harley-Davidson Street Bob is a classic machine. Arguably the most notorious Dyna to hit the streets and has served as a blank canvas for riders looking to build their ideal Dyna for over 15 years. Our venerable graphic designer Ben had put his canvas on the back burner, stacking the miles on his relatively stock bike until the creative levy broke and he decided it was time for a resurrection.
The decision was made to keep things blacked out and old school with this build, keeping the classic lines of the bike and complimenting Harley's throwback twin shock design with equally old school styling courtesy of the RSD Nostalgia Collection. This line of billet CNC machined engine covers replace the stock plain Derby Cover, Points Cover, Clutch Cover and Transmission Top Cover. The nostalgia collection is tried and true, a staple of the RSD parts catalog and continues to give Harley Twin Cam's a uniquely vintage look that flows flawlessly with the timeless look of any Harley model.
Ben chose the Turbine Air Cleaner as a new set of lungs for his beast. The Turbine combines a patented internal Venturi design with a high-flow K&N air filter element to create a smooth vortex of unobstructed clean air that funnels directly into your throttle body, boosting fuel efficiency and performance. Combined with an aftermarket exhaust and fuel tuner, this combo can produce a powerful upgrade in both HP and TQ.
To connect Ben to his trusty steed he chose the RSD Traction Grips, Traction Freestyle 2-Up Seat, Traction Foot and Toe Pegs, as well as our Regulator adjustable lever set. A massive upgrade from his old setup, the traction grips and pegs offer a unique design to keep the rider planted, giving precise control and feedback in the corners while the Traction Seat's grippy material keeps your ass glued during acceleration and braking. The regulator levers are a true upgrade over the stock units. These billet levers are adjustable for reach, giving you complete control over brake and clutch feel, and when combined with the RSD Four Piston Differential-Bore Brake Calipers, deliver unmatched stopping performance.
Putting that heart-pounding v-twin power to the ground in proper form meant ditching the heavy stock steel laced units and switching over to a set of super light RSD Traction Wheels in Black Ops. These wheels are a thing of beauty. Developed for competitive use in American Flat Track, these wheels have proven themselves podium after podium and the DOT version differs little from their race winning counterparts. Ben opted to keep the stock front wheel at 19 but bump the rear from 16" to 18", giving him a boost in ride height, lean angle and the ability to run better rubber courtesy of Dunlop Tires. Less rotational mass at the front and back also provides increases in acceleration and stopping performance, as well as more control in the corners.
The task of keeping this 600+ lb beast glued to the road was handed off to Fox Suspension. Up front, the stock spongy fork springs and wasted fork oil was dumped in favor of a set of Fox fork cartridges and Motul fork oil. This combo provides a more linear spring rate, reducing brake dive and increasing rebound effectiveness to help keep your front wheel on track and pointed in the right direction. Topped off with a set of Misano pre-load adjusters, this setup allows you to dial in your spring preload for a tuned riding experience.
Out back a set of Fox QS3-QSR remote reservoir 13.5" shocks handle this hogs heavy rear end. With rebound and compression adjustment made simple by Fox's 3-position Quick Switch Rebound (QSR) and quick switch compression adjustment (QS3), ride quality and comfort can be adjusted in just a few seconds, going from cushy highway cruiser to corner crusher in just a few clicks.
