KTM just keeps putting out bikes we’d like to own, the new KTM 1290 Super Adventure is no different. The KTM represents the ultimate in performance adventure touring bikes in a segment that some consider the hottest growth segment in two wheels. With a monster power plant, aggressive performance tune, geometry, and style it’s clear that KTM is leading the way. So how do we make it better? That was a big question.

The bike sat for a bit as we did our research and tried to find parts. But this was during covid and with a new bike it was ultra-hard to find off the shelf items to fit to the bike. So, we had to beg, barrow and beg some more to find the right stuff for the bike. The guys at Rottweiler were a massive help and they supplied prototype products that got the project off the ground. While it’s hard work to be a test mule build it’s also exciting to see the changes happen first on a custom bike. The motivation for the project was to build the ultimate Paris Dakar big bike in memory of the times before 450’s dominated the desert. While we’d love to see the fastest guys on the planet racing big bikes in the desert we fully understand the dangers and perils that go along with 120 plus MPH speeds across the tundra. And with the 1290 were looking at a machine capable of 150 plus mph. The fear is real with this machine as it’s capable of doing just that on dirt.

Just as with modern superbikes the KTM 1290 hosts further upgraded electronics capabilities to help tame the hp, weight and chassis. With Traction Control, slide angle control, fully adjustable abs, decent and accent control and an adjustable slipper clutch the combinations are endless and the ability to adjust the machine to your liking is endless. While it may seem confusing and overwhelming, the more you play with the system, the easier it is to figure it out and utilize it to enhance your riding experience.
